palm graffiti

wikipedia:Arecaceae or Palmae (also known by the name Palmaceae, which is taxonomically invalid[1]), the palm family, is a family of flowering plants belonging to the monocot order, Arecales. There are roughly 202 currently known genera with around 2600 species, most of which are restricted to tropical, subtropical, and possibly warm temperate climates.

As I wonder through Paris I keep seeing palm trees in photos and billboards. I take this as a sign, as Carolee Schneeman implies in her essay about dreams informing her work (will share the formal title later).

I must take this as information and record it for my work. For now the palms remind me of tropical climates, which always bring me back to my mother. She was a southern woman, although crazy, who is very much tied to the tropics and black culture. She raised me around all culture, specifically black and Mediterranean (but my father is Sicilian and informs this as well).

These palms, for now also remind me of the new woman in my life who is from Martinique. She is black, from the tropics, kind, intellegent, and supportive of my artistic life.

I will continue to investigate this symbol in my life and record its impact on my love, life, and work.
